The God Complex: A Night of Poetry, Identity, and Community at AMBACC

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center (AMBACC) welcomed a full house of more than 50 guests for The God Complex: A Cinematic Poetry Experience, presented by the talented Poetyc Visionz and his crew.

What unfolded that evening was more than a performance. It was a powerful reminder of what happens when art, culture, history, and community come together under one roof.

Through spoken-word poetry, cinematic storytelling, music, and theatrical expression, Poetyc Visionz and his crew took the audience on an emotional journey exploring identity, spirituality, love, pain, healing, and self-discovery.

At the heart of the evening was a message that resonates deeply with AMBACC's mission: the importance of understanding, preserving, and celebrating our identity as Black people across our past, present, and future.

Our past carries the sacrifices and resilience of those who came before us. Our present reminds us to embrace the beauty of who we are, while our future depends on the stories we preserve, the spaces we create, and the generations we inspire.

Perhaps the most beautiful part of the evening was not just what happened on stage, but what happened in the room.

A diverse audience gathered, with members of Albany's Black community showing up to celebrate and support our brother Poetyc Visionz and his fellow performers. It was a beautiful demonstration of unity and the power of supporting our own.

And that is exactly what AMBACC is about.

We believe art is more than entertainment. It is a bridge between generations, a reflection of our humanity, and a way of preserving the voices and experiences of our people. We strive to create spaces where Black artists are seen, heard, celebrated, and supported, while welcoming people of all backgrounds to experience the richness of our culture.

When we create spaces for our artists to shine, we do more than celebrate their talent. We honor those who came before us, uplift those who stand among us, and open doors for those who will come after us.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Poetyc Visionz, his entire crew, and everyone who joined us for such a meaningful evening.

More than 50 people. One room. Countless stories. A shared past, a living present, and a future we have the power to shape together.

JUNETEENTH 2026

JUNE 20, 2026 was a day to remember. We had such a fantastic time. The weather was great, and we were able to celebrate the whole time. The day kicked off with the annual African Heritage Parade coordinated by none other than our very own Orville Abrams. We honored the parade marshals, received support from our local elected officials, and vendors from all sectors. The day continued on with activities for the youth and children, live performances by local bands, dance groups, African drumming and so much more. If you could not make it this year, remember AMBACC celebrates Juneteenth on Saturday, the week of June 19. Next year, prepare to join us for something big on Saturday, June 19, 2027!

MISSISSIPPI DAY 2026

Mississippi Day Brings Community Together

On September 19, the Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center was proud to gather with hundreds of community members for another beautiful Mississippi Day.

The day was filled with food, music, fellowship, local vendors, bands and performers, community partners, local elected officials, and people from across the community coming together to celebrate culture, history, and one another. Throughout the day, we were grateful to serve food to more than 700 people.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to every vendor, volunteer, band, performer, community partner, local official, and community member who helped make the day possible. Your time, presence, energy, and support are what make gatherings like Mississippi Day so meaningful.

Mississippi Day is about more than a single event. It is about preserving culture, honoring the people and stories that came before us, strengthening relationships across generations, and creating spaces where our community can simply come together.

We were also honored to recognize the memory and legacy of Bishop McKinney Johnson of St. John’s COGIC.

These are the moments that remind us of the power of community and why it is so important to continue creating spaces where people feel welcomed, celebrated, and connected.

AMBACC Celebrates Women's History Month

During Women's History Month, the Alice Moore Black Arts and Cultural Center partnered with others to celebrate women in Albany, NY, who are trailblazers in their own right. To end the month on a high note, a women's luncheon was provided at AMBACC. In the photos, several women of color in politics & governement were honored.

Poetry & Jazz Night

AMBACC continues their mission on 365 Black. Men, women and all those alike were able to celebrate Black music and art on Juneteenth. A time was had and we appreciate all the poets, musicians and artists who were willing to share their passion and talents with us all.

Portrait Unveiling

Our teen photography program completed a wonderful project to honor many of the pillars of the Albany Community. They all have so much to be proud of and in their own right, deserved this portrait and dedication of their impact!

Special recognition to Mrs. Anne Pope, former NAACP President. Her portrait is to the left. We appreciate and recognize all the "Good Trouble" she got into on behalf of Black people.

AMBACC celebrated Black History Month with the children. There was beautiful storytelling, arts and crafts and children showcasing their artistic ability through dance.
