The Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center founded by Dr. Alice Green provides more than just a space to celebrate Black history, but also provides free events and resources to the community. This holiday season, the staff at AMBACC in collaboration with community partners provide food for families in need during Thanksgiving. Through collaboration, more than 20 families were able to receive food items for their Thanksgiving meal. We handed out 20 turkeys and 60 boxes of sides from Alltown Fresh.

On Wednesday, community members were able to pick up fresh turkeys and other produce. Thanksgiving morning fresh pre-cooked sides were made available for reheat in time for an early traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
The most wonderful feeling is to help people in need without expecting anything else other than knowing that you had the opportunity to make a difference in the community. It was a wonderful occasion as even people driving by stopped to inquire, made an u-turn (worth the traffic ticket) and even shared their food with some of the unhoused people in the community. We appreciate everyone who stopped by and if you are interesting in volunteering, please stop by anytime, Monday through Friday, 12pm to 7pm.
Special thank you to all of our partners who made these opportunities possible not only for the residents of the South End of Albany but also community members around Albany.
